I would like to know more about the Pointers – having owned GSP’s for the last 12yrs. We are interested in a change but I believe that Dalmatians can often have skin problems with the grass – as we live on 32 Acres we couldn’t control want grass that are exposed to. Therefore we were wondering are pointers the same as they have alot of white coat too?
Thanks
Kylie
This is a slightly difficult question to answer because it can come down to the individual dog. Pointers are not prone to skin conditions and allergies but they can crop up from time to time.
I have had one had an allergy to ‘something’ but it was never discovered what it was. At the same time she was living with other pointers who showed no reaction to their surrounds.
Also there are some grasses/plants out there that dogs, no matter the breed, just can’t toletate. Wandering Jew is one such plant that is well known for causing allergic reactions. Paspalum is another.
Pointers are generally a healthy breed and there are many of them on large acreage properties (this is actually where they do best).
